P.M. confirms that U.B. Pres. will take year off

The rumour mill was in high gear today after reports that President of the University of Belize, Dr. Angel Cal, had been relieved of his duties. Any hiring or firing at that level at the University is done by the Prime Minister. This afternoon, Said Musa said Cal is leaving, but is actually heading off on a government mission.
Prime Minister Said Musa
“What we’ve agreed on is for Dr. Cal to go on a sabbatical for one year to pursue, to chair up the task force that is working on Mayan and African studies for the university, and indeed for the educational system. And he has agreed to this, he’s going off beginning in January on a sabbatical, but he is the President of the University of Belize. So to answer your question, no there’s no truth to him to being relieved of his job.”

“Who will hold over the interim?”
Prime Minister Said Musa
“The board will meet on that. I understand that there is a candidate their’ looking at, I’m not sure at what stage it’s at, so I prefer to wait to hear what the board recommends.”
Sources at the University tell News 5 that the interim president will be veteran educator, Corinth Morter-Lewis. Cal’s departure becomes effective on January first.
