Belize does well in regional broadcast awards

Two Belizean media houses received some good news this afternoon, all the way from Barbados. It was the occasion of the annual Caribbean Media Awards. News 5 was honoured with two first place stories. Reporter Jacqueline Woods and Cameraman/Editor George Tillett won in the children’s category with their story about a young AIDS victim who became infected through a transfusion of tainted blood. In the investigative reporting category, News Director Stewart Krohn’s story on the illegal Guatemalan settlement at Machaquila was selected best in the region. He was assisted by Amandala‘s Melvin Flores. For best television advertisement, Belize’s Bel-Caribe Communications was declared the winner for its ad on behalf of Alliance Bank. The awards show will be broadcast Saturday night at 7:30 right here on Channel 5.
