Belizean Killed in Melchor Bar
A Belizean businessman was murdered inside his establishment in Melchor de Mencos around ten on Monday night. Thirty-two-year-old Samuel Sosa, who once lived in Benque Viejo del Carmen, was shot and killed whilst inside his restaurant and bar in the neighboring town of Melchor in Guatemala. Sosa’s bar was open for business when a man, now identified as “El Gordo” walked inside and fired several shots killing Sosa. It is not clear why he was killed, but some reports circulating on Guatemalan blog sites say that Sosa had gotten into an altercation with a woman inside the bar and it allegedly became physical after which Sosa was shot dead. Guatemala Police have since detained Mayra Veronica Aldana, who they say is an accomplice to the murder. According to Guatemalan media reports, eyewitnesses told police that Aldana was inside the vehicle with the killer prior to the murder. Authorities intercepted the car described as the transport used by the alleged killer.
Police say that Aldana had a cell phone with her at the time she was detained. And according to news reports, two partially destroyed cell phone chips were removed from Aldana’s underwear. According to Sosa’s family, he relocated from Benque Viejo to Melchor. While in Guatemala, he had opened two businesses but at the time of his death, he had only one of the bars in business. Sosa is the father of three children who reside in Belize. His family is still trying to get answers from across the border.
