Southwest Airlines Plane Leaving Belize Forced to Re-Route for Mechanical Issues
Passengers traveling from Belize to Denver, Colorado on Sunday via Southwest Airlines found themselves in Houston, Texas instead after a problem developed with the aircraft. Reports say the plane lost pressure in the cabin during the flight. At altitudes above ten thousand feet, low air pressure can cause several psychological conditions including decompression and altitude sickness. But it is believed no one on board flight two-eighty nine was affected and the airline’s spokesman said the decision was taken out of an abundance of caution and customers were re-rerouted from Houston to other destinations. Southwest began offering the direct flight from Belize to Denver in March 2017, which added to a host of other activities in the tourism sector to produce one of the best years for tourism in Belize on record.
