Confident Bernard Wagner Says Change is Coming

The People’s United Party continues to ride a tidal wave of goodwill from last week’s impressive national convention in Belize City. The P.U.P.’s Bernard Wagner is quietly confident going into this nomination week. He says residents are embracing the potential of change in the form of the P.U.P. eleven, and this Wednesday, nomination day will be another example of the blue machine in action.

“It has been extremely gratifying for us on the campaign trail, particularly after the convention. There’s an upbeat, a surge; people want this change, they are calling for the change and they are telling us on the campaign trail that change is coming. The convention really reinforced that and that people see us as a viable option and that they want this change in the City. The people are tired of the twelve years of the Darrell Bradley-Dion Leslie regime and they want new life to be pumped into the City and that is what the P.U.P. slate brings to the City.”

“Now how much of a factor in all of this is the fact that for the first time in a while, people see the P.U.P. spending money on a consistent basis? You said as a viable alternative, but what people really want is goods and services, they want a lee bit of handling. How important is that from a perception basis, that ‘P.U.P. di roll again?’ How important is that in the mind of the voters out there?”

“Funding and financing of any campaign is always an issue. We will never be able to match the war chest of the incumbent government, but with the help of the business community out there and with the help of our party, we have been able to survive and we have been able to tell the people on the campaign trail that we will put forward our best slate and we will put forward our best effort because we want to make this change for the people of Belize City.  Wednesday, we di expect a massive turnout, and these are people who are genuine, they are authentic, they are not being paid, they are not being bought. These are people who have bought into this P.U.P. slate. They just love this slate, they want to come out and support this slate and they want to support the People’s United Party. And so we look on Wednesday as a big day for us. We are looking forward to this day; my entire slate has been asking when will nomination day be and we are looking forward to it, because we know we will be closer to victory come March the seventh.”
