P.U.P. Says Treatment of Tour Guides Wrong

The People’s United Party seized on the opportunity to provide support for the disaffected tour guides and support staff in the Zone. The party selected its Belize City mayoral aspirant, Bernard Wagner, to wag the finger of disapproval at a press briefing this afternoon. If he is elected, Wagner plans to try to reverse the situation, but he promises this is not a vote-getting gimmick.

“We’re looking at a hundred fifty to two hundred tour guides who will be impacted by this, their families will be impacted by this scenario. And we as a P.U.P. City Council we want to ensure that we are always looking out for the best interest of our people, because we are all about the people and the people come first. And certainly, while you would want to encourage efficiency at the Tourist Village, we still have to maintain that our people on the ground are eating and eating well. In a nutshell that essentially covers that we at the P.U.P. City Council want to provide support for the tour guides in the plight that they are currently facing. Dah politics season, you could say; but we take our business very seriously. And we are always focusing on ensuring that our people get a piece of this pie; it can’t be a situation where the tour operators are already behind the fence, making their share of the pie. Why are you now going to take away the small amount that is left for our people and put them in an adverse situation? That, to us, is against our policy; we are about the people. And even if people leave here saying it’s politics, well it’s good politics.”
