SolGen Says No Early Solution as Yet
But is three years too long to still not have implemented the Consent Order, especially for Maya communities that have waited nearly a generation? Hawke told us the Court understands that it is going to take some time because of all the intricacies involved. But he added that the Government is moving will all deliberate speed to not keep dragging out the process any longer than it should be.
Nigel Hawke, Solicitor General
“Three years is long but not inordinately long. But I think the court, of itself has indicated to all the parties that because given the nature of this matter, it will take some time to roll out all the intricacies involved in this matter, so the court appreciates the fact that it will take some time. But we’re not saying that there ought to be delays, but we certainly know that this is going to be a very long process.”
There will be a further report to the C.C.J. on February twenty-seventh.
