Sister Yvonne Hunter; dead at 74

It is with great regret that we announce the death of a veteran Belizean educator and religious leader. Sister Yvonne Hunter, also known as Sister Alexander, passed away this afternoon in Providence, Rhode Island. She was seventy-four. Sister Yvonne joined the Sisters of Mercy in 1946 and following her religious training abroad, returned to Belize where she distinguished herself as a teacher, first at Holy Redeemer and later at St. Catherine’s Academy, where she served as principal. In the 1980’s she was transferred to the U.S. headquarters of the Mercy Order in Rhode Island where she continued to teach and serve those in need. Sister Yvonne Hunter will be laid to rest In Providence.
