Port Loyola Rep Confirms He Will Not Seek Fifth Term, but When Will He Go?
As he alluded to, Martinez is headed to retirement as a four-time area representative and will not seek a fifth term. Whether he goes right away or serves out his term, he says he has not yet decided. But as he prepares to head for the exit, he maintains that he has done the best he can for his constituents and is not “abandoning” them.
Anthony “Boots” Martinez, Area Rep., Port Loyola
“I’m sure and I’m certain that I said it from the night of the election, that I am retiring from politics. Who step up now is a matter for the party, but I said it from election night that I am a retired politician, going into retirement.”

“But you won’t go for a by-election?”

“Or will you retire when the term is over?”
Anthony “Boots” Martinez
“That is a next case and that is a decision that I need to make.”
Reporter
“To go when the Prime Minister goes?”
Anthony “Boots” Martinez
“I certainly believe that I’ll go when the Prime Minister goes.”
Reporter
“Why though? Why before? Why with him?”
Anthony “Boots” Martinez
“That is my choice; that is my choice.”
Reporter
“The people elected you for as long as the term lasts though; why would you be abandoning them before?”
Anthony “Boots” Martinez
“I am not abandoning them. If I choose to retire – I need family time, I need all kind of thing. I am a human being too. Retirement age to start with is at fifty-five; in July I’ll be fifty-five. So at least I noh lef before retirement age.”
