Belmopan man drowns in Macal River
Meanwhile, a recreational stop at the Macal River proved deadly for one Belmopan resident over the weekend. Family members tell News 5 that on Saturday, twenty-two year old Lisani Arzu of Moho Street attended a church leadership group meeting in San Ignacio. As part of the day’s activities, the young people stopped to bathe near Cristo Rey Village. But around three-thirty that afternoon, Arzu, standing in shallow water because he couldn’t swim, fell and disappeared under the water. Within minutes, an unconscious Arzu was pulled from the river, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the San Ignacio Hospital. Arzu would have turned twenty-three on November twenty-first. Funeral services are planned for this Friday.
