Family of drowned man suspects foul play

Story Picture
A police internal affairs investigation has been launched into the drowning death of a Belize City man. According to the cops, in the wee hours of Saturday morning, twenty-one year old Guillermo Montejo was detained on drunk driving charges. But while he was being transported to the Queen Street police station, Montejo escaped from custody. Police caught up with him on the BelChina Bridge, but the young man eluded capture by jumping into the Haulover Creek. The police say they didn’t see Montejo until his body was found floating in the water near the Northern Fishermen Cooperative on Sunday morning. But tonight, family members say they are convinced there’s something missing from this story.
