Espat leaves politics but ads continue

And while we’re on the subject of former candidates, the full page advertisement for Jorge Espat in this week’s Amandala comes as something of a shocker. That’s because a week ago Espat announced his intention to leave politics and not seek re-election to his seat as Freetown representative. What happened? Sources close to Espat say that the ad had been previously contracted and could not be cancelled. One would have thought, however, that some arrangement could have been worked out to credit the costly ad space to Espat’s successor, whoever that may be. On that score, no candidate has yet surfaced publicly, although the party hierarchy is said to be looking at several talented young women as potential standard bearers.
