Yo Creek teacher wins over $14,000
A primary school teacher from Yo Creek Village in the Orange Walk District will own a home quicker than she had expected. That’s because the twenty-four year old mother of two will use over fourteen thousand dollars she won in Courts most recent “Catch the Cash” promotion to lay the foundation. News 5’s Marion Ali reports from Courts headquarters on the Northern Highway.

Shermadine Carrillo automatically won ten thousand dollars earlier this week when her name was drawn from among thousands of other Courts customers. This morning, she had the opportunity to equal that amount when she entered the famous “Catch The Cash” booth.
She was given one minute to grab as much money as possible in denominations of tens, twenties, fifties, and one hundred dollar bills. Surprisingly, when it was over, Carrillo had caught four thousand, three hundred and ninety dollars. Surprisingly, because for the shy teacher, things apparently weren’t going her way.
Shermadine Carrillo, Courts Catch the Cash Winner
“I didn’t hear when they said start. When the lady touched the glass, that’s when I began to grab. I was a little bit shaky in the booth, probably that is why I couldn’t catch a lot and I wasn’t able to move faster.”
Marion Ali
“Does winning this prize convince you to make further purchases at Courts?”
Shermadine Carrillo
“Yes, it’s convincing. So far I haven’t decided what else I want to purchase.”
Speaking of purchase, Carrillo’s luck was the result of tickets she received when she bought a bed and wardrobe last month.
For others who’d like a chance to win like she did, well you have one last chance for this year. The big draw will take place in January and includes a choice of three prizes: a duty paid Mitsubishi pick-up worth over sixty thousand dollars, plus free gas, insurance and license for a year; a week’s vacation in Cancun, including ten thousand dollars spending money; or a shopping spree in Belize worth over twenty thousand dollars.
This will be the last event under the “Catch the Cash” format, a concept that Courts has stuck to for the excitement it brings.
Anamarie Bennett, Advertising/Promotions Mgr., Courts
“You don’t know exactly how much you’ll catch and its exciting for people to watch so rather than just pulling out your name and that’s the end of it, we have a little excitement at the end for them to catch something.”
Marion Ali
“So we can expect this to continue in the next year or so?”
Anamarie Bennett
“No. We try to remain fresh and creative, so next year will be a different thing. I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag as yet, but there will be a different promotion next year.”
