Gov’t lists holidays for 2003
It’s getting to be that time of year when printers both here and abroad are busy producing their 2003 promotional calendars for dozens of Belizean clients. The problem is that more often than not these calendars are full of mistakes when it comes to the date of local holidays. In the hope of avoiding that problem and its resulting confusion, government has published its official list of 2003 holidays… so here it goes.
New Year’s Day comes on a Wednesday, which means only one day to recover from that New Year’s eve hangover. Baron Bliss Day falls on Sunday March ninth, but will be celebrated on Monday, the tenth. The four day Easter Holiday begins on Friday, April eighteenth, while Labour Day on May first arrives on a Thursday. The twenty-fourth of May, which is designated as Commonwealth Day, will be observed on a Saturday. The tenth of September, St. George’s Caye Day, comes on a Wednesday, while Independence Day on Sunday the twenty-first will give us the day off on the twenty-second. Similarly, Pan American Day offers us a holiday on Monday, October thirteenth. Garifuna Settlement Day on November nineteenth, 2003, falls on a Wednesday, while Christmas and Boxing Day thankfully arrive on Thursday and Friday, allowing us all a good rest to prepare for another year of work and play.
