Emil Audinett gunned down at home

Twenty-nine year old Emil Audinett was a marked man and on Wednesday night he ran out of luck. He was sitting inside his home on Ordonez Street, Belize City, with his common-law-wife when a gunman entered the house and opened fire. Audinett was shot multiple times on the chest and head and died instantly in front of his wife. The motive for the murder is still under investigation but it is known that Audinett was recently involved in two disputes. The gunman fled but police found two shirts believed to belong to persons involved in the fatal shooting. So far one man has been apprehended for questioning. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

A deadly assault on Wednesday night has claimed the life of a known street figure in Belize City. Emil Audinett and his common-law wife were inside their home on Ordonez Street when an unknown attacker entered the yard, walked up to his house and opened fire on him. The twenty-nine-year-old construction worker would not survive the onslaught.

“Sometime just minutes after seven last night, police responded to shots being fired on Ordonez Avenue and as a result checks were made at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where police on arrival observed the motionless body of Emil Fernando Audinett.”
Audinett was shot point-blank several times, his female companion staring helplessly at the execution in progress.

“The body was observed to have multiple gunshot wounds around the chest area and in the face area. What police have gathered so far is that just before seven, Mr. Audinett was along with his common-law wife inside the living room looking at the news when a lone gunman came from the front door and fired several shots int his direction, causing the fatal injuries. Police in the area made checks and found two shirts allegedly used by two male persons in the immediate area.”
By our records, several attempts had been made on his life prior to Wednesday evening. Audinett’s luck ran out when his attackers made good on threats made on two prior occasions last week.

“The information that we have received so far is that it is believed that he had a misunderstanding, two separate misunderstandings, one on Election Day and the next one was of recent, on Friday, with two individuals.”

“Are you looking for anyone in relation to that shooting?”

“We have one person in custody that is being questioned at this moment.”

“Is that person cooperating with you guys?”

“Well he is being interviewed at this moment.”

“Is he known to be a gang-affiliated person?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“Well our records don’t have anything much on him. We know that yes, he hangs out in one of the areas here in Belize City.”

“And the nature of the misunderstandings, were they personal?”

“It is something that we are still trying to establish, as we don’t have the full facts as to exactly what transpired during those two arguments that he had with different persons, but this is the angle that we are looking at, at this moment.”
Emil Audinett was once a suspect in the 2010 murder of Giovanni ‘Nose’ Lauriano, however, no charges were brought against him.
