Special Teams to Investigate Lauriano Murder, Independence Rapes

Chester Williams

In terms of recent cases, Williams says special investigative teams have been put in place for the murder of Bernadine Lauriano and the rapes reported in Independence Village. The new deputy commissioner responsible for operations says these officers are dedicated to the task of catching the persons responsible in both major crimes. Speaking specifically to sex crimes, Williams says they will collaborate with the Ministry of Human Development among others.

Chester Williams, Deputy Commissioner (Operations)

“There are certain cases that occur that we must have investigators who will be dedicated to investigate that case from start to finish, to ensure that the proper evidence is put into a file for a subsequent prosecution. That said, I have directed O.C. CIB, that I want a special investigative team to investigate the murder of the lady that was killed on Aloe Vera Street… [Miss Bernadine] Lauriano. I have also directed that a special investigative team be put in place to investigate the cases of sexual assault in Independence, where those children are concerned, because we cannot tolerate or encourage grown men or any man per se to be out there violating our children. It cannot continue. And so when those type of cases present themselves, we must do what we can to be able to stem them, and one good way to stem it is to have the perpetrators in prison. And anyone who may be thinking of doing the same will think twice, because they know that the police will be investigating fully, to be able to put them in prison where they belong.”
