N. Highway accident claims O.W. man’s life
An Orange Walk man is dead as the result of a traffic accident on the Northern Highway. Augustine Castillo was crushed to death when the dump truck in which he was a passenger overturned between mile eighty-two and eighty-three. Castillo and Bartolo Mai were riding in the back of the dump truck, which was loaded with concrete blocks. The truck’s driver, Edilberto Gutierrez, told police that around 4:30 on Monday afternoon he was driving north toward Corozal when he saw a forty foot container truck parked across the highway. Gutierrez swerved to avoid the collision, but lost control of the vehicle and it rolled over. Castillo was taken to Corozal Hospital and died while undergoing treatment. Mai remains hospitalised with injuries to his chest, foot and face.
