Hattieville youth shot for ignoring police orders

A sixteen year old youth from Hattieville was shot during a joint police BDF mobile patrol in Belize City over the weekend. Police say they came across the youth lying down in some bushes in an abandoned lot on George Street around nine fifteen on Saturday night. He was ordered to get up and he obeyed initially but threw himself back to the ground and appeared to be looking for something in the bushes. Police again issued instructions to stop but he reportedly continued and that was when one of the officers shot him in the lower left leg. Police say they recovered a nine millimetre pistol bearing no serial number from the scene and have begun an internal investigation.
