The City “Lights Our Hearts” on Saturday

The second annual “Light Our Hearts” march and rally takes place this weekend at the Memorial Park in Belize City. It is organized by Shakera Young who remains steadfast on her mission to fight for peace and humanity in the Old Capital following the murder of her son, seven-year-old Tyler Savery, which occurred back in November of 2016.  The initiative’s intent is to bring together mothers and parents who are hurt from the lost of their loved ones to violence. On the heels of the B.N.T.U. rally on Thursday where Young was a guest speaker, she says she is motivated and invites the public to participate.

“We are scheduled to start tomorrow at five o’clock. We are going to do a peace march leaving from Memorial Park at five o’clock. We invite anybody who has been affected, whether directly or indirectly. The initial thing for it was to bring our grieving mothers, the women together. But with everything that is happening, we’ve decided to make it an open event so we’re going to invite whoever wants to come to be a part of it. We will have a very short procession through the streets because we don’t want everybody to be out too late. We end at the park where we start the rally. The rally is basically an outreach for people who want to be there and who will be there to bring them to some sort of a healing process. I have my church ministry that will be behind me there, we will be ministering to them through dance, through singing. We have poems and so forth that we will be using to get to these people. We are also going to have quite a few giveaways because I have an amount of people who sponsored the event. And so we intend to have a very nice time tomorrow, a very peaceful demonstration and I just invite everybody to come on out. It is definitely something that needs to be addressed.”

The route of the march is from the Memorial Park along Marine Parade, on to Craig Street, turn on to Barrack Road and into Hyde’s Lane, North Front Street and end at the Memorial Park.
