Scholarships available to study in U.K.
Students wishing to pursue university studies in Great Britain have no shortage of opportunities, as two sources have recently announced the availability of full scholarships for Belizeans. The Ashcroft International Scholarship Programme selects three Belizean students each year to attain a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration at the Ashcroft International Business School, a part of Anglia Polytechnic University in Chelmsford, England. The awards, which cover tuition, living and travel expenses for up to four years, are open to Belizean residents age seventeen to twenty-one who are either still in school or are employed in Belize. Studies begin in September 2003. Deadline for applications is sixth December and forms are available from school principals or from Michael Coye at the Belize Bank in Belize City. Six Belizeans are currently enrolled in the programme.
And for those who have already attained a bachelor’s degree, the British government is offering assistance to obtain a masters. Candidates for the Chevening Scholarships, in addition to a first degree, must also have at least two years work experience in Belize. They are expected to demonstrate not only intellectual ability, but also strong leadership potential. Like the Ashcroft awards, the Chevening Scholarships cover all expenses associated with the postgraduate studies, which are taken up at the most appropriate British university. Applications may be obtained from the British High Commission in Belmopan. Deadline for the completion of the full application is December thirteenth. Classes begin in September of 2003.
