Espat donates to vocational education
Since resigning from Cabinet in October of 2001, we have not heard a lot from Jorge Espat. But the Freetown area representative has been working hard in his constituency and today gave a boost to one of its many educational institutions, the Centre for Employment Training.

The donation to CET is worth over ten thousand dollars, a gift to the Centre by area representative, Jorge Espat.
Jorge Espat, Area Rep., Freetown
“Education we believe is the avenue for our young Belizeans to be productive in our Belizean society. And we believe the more young Belizeans are literate and technical and proficient that they become employable. The Centre for Employment Training, which is located in the Freetown constituency, has produced outstanding graduates who have been able to find meaningful employment and in fact have been able to have family supporting wages.”
The equipment and supplies will help to develop the number of programmes that CET offers to its two hundred and fifty students.
Cecil Ford, Principal, CET
“For the hospitality catering programme, we received a kitchen aid. For the welding skills area we received two torch sets and some goggles, safety glasses. The machine shop fitting, we received some hacksaw blades. For the computer repair programme, we received a computer repair kit. We received welding machines, for the masonry we received a blaster that sprays on the plaster onto concrete buildings.”
Most importantly, Ford says the students will be using the equipment to do jobs that will advance their training and also earn money for the centre. Jacqueline Woods for News 5.
