It was back to back for Pallotti High School today as their team walked away with top honours in the A.D.M. Belize Mills Nutrition Quiz for the second consecutive year. The Pallotti girls bested teams from Toledo Community College, Sacred Heart of Cayo and Orange Walk tech in the competition held this morning at the Princess Hotel in Belize City. Team captain, Taren Ysaquirre, says she was confident all the way.

“I didn’t have any doubts. We studied a lot…I think we were well prepared for this competition.”
Also well prepared were the quiz officials. According to Acting Senior Public Health Inspector, John Bodden, a member of the contest committee, there was a lot of behind the scenes work to be done.

“First of all from the financial aspect, doing the costing, how much that would cost us to coordinate the activities throughout the country, because we had four different district finals and then the nationals today. So there was a lot of logistics we needed to have set in place.”
Biology and Integrated Science teacher at Pallotti, Michelle Turton, says the girls had to make some sacrifices to be victorious.

“I know that the hard work has paid off. I’m proud to be their coach and to be there to support them and I’m willing to do again. And I know it’s difficult for them this year because they knew they had to live up to that expectation that last year we won, so you better bring it back again. And I told them, I don’t train losing teams.”
The girls each won a six hundred dollar scholarship, while the school received a trophy. Marion Ali for News 5.
The nutrition quiz was organised by the Ministries of Health and Education along with PAHO, and was sponsored fully by A.D.M. Belize Mills.
