Howell Gillett Makes Moves to Lower Corruption in Police Department
Today, Senior Superintendent Howell Gillett was described as possibly the busiest man in a positive way in the south side of Belize City. The Regional Commander of Eastern Division South has hit the ground running since he took over in March, getting support from various businesses in his fight against the urban violence. This afternoon, he gave updates to the media, saying that within a few days, police officers working on the south side of the city will be enjoying between six and ten percent discount on fuel prices at any UNO gas station countrywide. Gillett says this should lower corruption within the department.
Sr. Supt. Howell Gillett, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South
“UNO Service Stations across the country is helping out police officers between—it’s not finalized yet—but its’ going to end up between six and ten percent where police officers will be able to fill up their tanks at discounted rates. And it is much needed because fuel prices are at a high rate at this time so it is a way for us to tell our officers we are looking out for you. And when we do all that we can do for our officers, then we will demand more of them so we are helping them to help themselves, but in turn they must help the community with the efforts that they will put in as a result.”
