Can Former Principal Lorna McKay Make Comeback?

Patrick Faber

As for Doctor Lorna McKay, who was unceremoniously thrown out of her post last August, her case is still before the Teaching Services Commission. A ruling found evidence to support a few of the charges raised by the Gwen Liz High School Board, but not enough to warrant dismissal. Here is how Faber explained it.

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education

“There was a recommendation the Board handed up to the T.S.C. for the discipline of principal Lorna McKay. I believe that the Commission found evidence presented to play out on, I think, two of the four charges – I am not certain of all the details. But that the recommendation made by the Board for her dismissal was too harsh of a punishment for what she was found to be guilty of, so to speak, and so the matter continues between the Board, the T.S.C. and probably even the appeals body that is involved, higher up than the Teaching Services Commission. So it is a matter that as you put it, is very fluid in regard to the principal and the charges being brought against her.”

Faber expressed some disagreement with the ruling of the T.S.C., stating that he feels it is obvious that Doctor McKay was taking the school “in the wrong direction.” Nonetheless, he professed to keep an open mind during his meeting with the teachers.
