Meet and Greet Back on Jane Usher Boulevard
Today, cops were visiting residents in the Jane Usher Boulevard area in their meet and greet sessions. Things have been relatively calm in this area since more boots were put on the ground. Deputy Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that they received a lot of positive feedback on the law enforcement efforts in the area. He shares more about what the police are doing on Jane Usher Boulevard.

“They are saying that they see the police vehicle patrolling every so often. They feel safe. They feel secure and basically they are happy with the work that the police is doing in this area. We are pledging our commitment to them that we will continue to do the work that we have been doing.”

“Are you able to share what the police are doing here on the ground?”

“Operationally, there is a lot that we have been doing. We have been ensuring that the police presence is maintained in the area. So, as a part of our operational strategy, we try to structure it in such a way that we have coverage in this area on a 24-hour-basis. I will not go into full details of our operations because those persons may want to take advantage and capitalize on what I have to say. But I will add that we are also in the area doing interventions and mediations and see how we can resolve issues between those groups that were rivaling with each other. That has been very fruitful. The results have been good. Most of the young men we have met with, since we intensified our mediation-intervention process, have been very positive about it. They have been optimistic. They want to live like you and I – to be able to move around how they want. So, they see this as an opportunity for them to move around more freely not only in Belize City but across the country.”

“Are there any particular rivalries in this location that police are keeping a close eye on?”

“Well, I think the work the police have been doing these past couple of weeks has been fruitful in the sense that we have seen that the rivalries in this part of the city, that we now refer to as Eastern Division Region 1, have gone somewhat dormant and I am sure that the effort of the police and the interventions that we have been doing on this side of the City have been helping in terms of diffusing the issues between the rivaling groups and that is complemented by the work of the police conducting aggressive stop and search in the respective areas.”
