Couple seeking legal advice after alleged political detention
In Tuesday’s newscast, we reported that two persons from Mafredi Village in Toledo were locked up allegedly at the instructions of Juan Coy, the area representative. On that day, fifty-five year old Juana Williams relayed her version of the ordeal including the fury she and her husband felt. Juana said they were escorted to the station after they were with friends at a beer parlour in the village of Columbia last Sunday. Roy, her husband who is currently in Belize City seeking legal advice, spoke to News Five today saying he is appalled at Coy’s heavy handiness.

“When we reached di station we ask fi di inspector but he mi busy wid somebody and so dehn seh have wah seat. Dehn ker we behind di place weh dehn detain people and give we wah seat. Inna ten minutes I asked di officer in charge we deh detained or what? Ih seh no, just have a seat di inspector wah si unnu right now. Bout ten minutes after, police come harass me and mi wife and lock we down without no questioning at all; put we behind bars. WPC throw she eena one cell and next one throw me eena wah next cell. My wife has a broken ankle plus she is a diabetic and she is an arthritis person and she can’t even walk good. Di way di police woman handle she and push she eena wah cell, I noh like it because harassment for no reason noh right by police. We should ah know something about it, why we deh lock down noh fi no reason at all.”
“After almost four hours after I release. When I walk outta di station, I meet di inspector outside ah di station on di veranda. He and one of mi brother-in-law di stand up di talk. So he wah come ask me now, what you and Juan Coy got? Dat dah weh he ask me outside deh. He seh if yoh want si me come talk to me inside. He wah come ask me weh me and Juan Coy got. Dah den I realized dat dah wah political affairs.”

“Maybe when you were at your friend’s house at the beer parlour, maybe he overheard you guys talking about the politics and he got offended?”
Roy Williams
“Well ih possible but come on dis yah time ih critical and with these two parties you know because we get so much hurt by dis UDP party right now, dah noh joke. Any political thing I come up with against him, if he even hear it from outside, I never tell him personally. I never did have a personal talk with Juan Coy.”
Williams will make a complaint of the incident to Internal Affairs of the Police Department.
