C.C.C.U. Gets Keys to Belize City
This afternoon at City Hall, the Belize City Council bestowed the key to the Old Capital upon the President of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions. It is a particularly unusual conferral since that presentation is often reserved for mayors and other city officials in sister city relationships. Today, members of the confederation, as well as members of the Belize City Council were present for the brief ceremony.
Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor
“Well you know the credit union movement has always been a big part of the whole Belizean experience. It has always been there to assist the common man and we felt that as a council that campaigned on ensuring that we look out for the business of the people, we felt that what better way to show that we are all about the people by hosting the president of the confederation of credit unions here at City Hall.”

“And what kind of relationship do you expect to see going forward? Normally when we hear about the council giving keys it’s to mayors of sister cities, et cetera. What are you expecting from this partnership?”
“The credit union in itself has always been serving the Belizean people. We felt that giving the key to the president of the confederation of credit unions was important. They play a substantial role in the everyday lives of the Belizean people.”
