Two charged for pilfering bank account
Two men including a former employee were charged with the theft of twenty thousand dollars from a customer’s account at Heritage Bank in the Cayo District, though they are accused of stealing much more. Twenty-seven year old Damion Dawson of Belize City and twenty-one year old Jonathan Almendarez of Teakettle, Cayo District, were read charges of theft before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer. Each man is accused of stealing ten thousand dollars from the Bank on October twenty-seventh, though in separate jurisdictions. The bank was alerted to the thefts right away and obtained camera footage showing Almendarez going into the bank to withdraw the monies. Almendarez is additionally charged with handling stolen goods. The granting of bail was objected to as the matter remains under investigation. But Dawson’s attorney Arthur Saldivar argued that his client was not likely to flee, which according to him is the only ground to be considered for granting bail. The Chief Magistrate granted bail of six thousand dollars each which they met. According to Almendarez, he had met with some people for a job was told to deliver something, but before he could say more, he was advised by his attorney not to say anymore. Both Dawson and Almendarez are due back in court on July second, 2018.
