Bulgarian Drifter Charged with Bank Theft
Bulgarian national forty-one-year-old Vasil Stoyanov Kadalov was charged with two counts of theft in connection with the reported stealing of two thousand dollars from a Caye Caulker resident’s bank account. Kadalov appeared before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford and pleaded not guilty through a translator. He was denied bail because he is considered a flight risk, having no fixed address, not being a Belizean resident, and unable to tell police who his relatives or friends in Belize are. According to Kadalov, he would not be able to seek legal advice while on remand. Donald Stuart, the complainant, told police that he checked his Atlantic Bank account and noticed that two thousand dollars was missing. He visited the bank’s location to check into his account and was presented with evidence of two withdrawals from the bank, of a thousand dollars each, which Stuart says he never made. There is no indication of how the withdrawals were made or the relationship between the men. Kadalov, remanded until June sixth, 2018, will next appear in San Pedro Magistrate’s Court as there was no magistrate on duty there today.
