2 Acquitted in Robbery
Two Belize City men, accused of robbery and wounding, were set free of the charges today after the complainant did not show up to the Magistrate’s Court. Twenty-six-year-old Matthew Smith, charged with robbery and wounding, and eighteen-year-old Dowellson Blair, charged with wounding, saw their charges dropped when Joshua Jones missed the court appearance. In November of 2016, Jones was walking in the City when he was attacked. He was assaulted and stripped of his chain valued at one hundred and fifty dollars.
The robbers fled but a police mobile on patrol ran down Smith, who according to police dropped the chain as he was running away. Blair faces an unrelated charge of grievous harm for an incident at a Ladyville basketball court, for which he is out on bail.
