Suspect Sought in City for Dangriga Murder

Gabriel Laurie Jr.

Police are still puzzling over Friday morning’s murder of Gabriel Tex Laurie Junior in the Wagierale area of Dangriga Town.  The forty-two-year-old was found seated inside the living room of his house with a gunshot wound to the center of the neck. Police are actively searching for one person of interest who is said to have left Dangriga for Belize City.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C. CIB Eastern Division

“The murder in Dangriga Town occurred on Friday the twenty-seventh of April, 2018, sometime after ten in the morning. Police responded to shots being fired in the Wagierale area and as a result, police visited a house which was being occupied at the time by Gabriel Tex Laurie, Junior, a forty-two year old Belizean. Upon arrival, police observed that the person had gunshot wounds to the body. The person was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. What police has gathered so far is that Mr. Laurie was inside the house when a male person entered the house and fired several shots in his direction. At this moment, we do not have a motive behind the shooting. I know that there were three persons detained, but they were released after they were interviewed and no further information was obtained from them.”

“Was the deceased known to police?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“No.”

Reporter

“I gather that there were several residents who lived in the vicinity of where the shooting took place; are witnesses saying anything? Are they cooperating with the police investigation?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“The police have spoken to several persons in the area and they are working on whatsoever information they may have gotten from them. But as far as the persons that were detained, they had to be released because there was no direct link with them to the murder.”

Reporter

“Sir, we had understood that shortly after the murder was discovered, police were on high alert to try to locate a man who left Dangriga to Belize City. Was that person picked up by police and was he questioned as well?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“No, that person is not in custody as yet.”

Reporter

“Is that person still a person of interest?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Yes, he is still a person of interest for this investigation.”
