“Most wanted” Guatemalan fugitive captured in Bz.

While those two Guatemalans await charges in Cayo, another has been handed over to authorities across the border. This morning one of Guatemala’s most wanted fugitives, Jose David Carrillo, was captured in a predawn raid in the village of San Lazaro in the Orange Walk District. Thirty-eight year old Carrillo, wanted in Guatemala on charges of kidnapping and murder, was taken by surprise without incident after intelligence sources pinpointed his location. The police department had previously received information from their Guatemalan counterparts that Carrillo was believed to be hiding in Belize. The successful arrest and handing over is a welcome boost to the morale of both forces and it is hoped that Guatemalan law enforcement authorities will reciprocate by putting pressure on several gangs of Guatemalans who have committed numerous robberies, rapes and murders on the Belize side of the frontier.
