Two arrested in Ontario arms bust
Two persons have been arrested following a police operation in the Cayo District. Around 4:30 on Tuesday evening, officers from Belmopan went into Ontario Village and searched the home of thirty-four year old Michael Patrick Monroe. Inside the house, police discovered a number of firearms and an arsenal of ammunition including a three-five-seven Magnum pistol with six rounds of ammo, two rounds of thirty-thirty ammunition, eleven, twelve-gauge shotgun cartridges and one hundred and thirty-four twenty-two calibre bullets. A further search of the compound led police to a van parked inside the yard. In the vehicle, authorities found a twenty-two Springfield rifle, thirty-thirty Winchester rifle and a chrome point twenty-two pistol along with over three hundred rounds of assorted ammunition. Police would not comment on what led to the raid but say that as a result of the discovery, Monroe has been arrested. Police have also taken into custody twenty-three year old Dorene Lucas, who was home with Monroe at the time of the search. Both have been charged with keeping unlicensed firearms and ammunition and keeping a prohibited firearm.
