Woodwellas release new CD

Story Picture
With no shortage of local artists trying to push their products on the Belizean market, the trick to success is to come out with something different yet catchy. That’s just what one young man and his collaborators have tried to do with “Supa Youth”. The album is an eclectic blend of various music genres by the group known as the Woodwellas.

Quinn, Woodwellas

“We had an album last year, but that was actually a third album that was “Caye Water”. That was actually the first album where we started finding our sound with the hip hop, the reggae, soca, Congo and the Punta and all ah dat stuff, but this one is a lot more into it.”

Janelle Chanona

“Tell me a little bit about this one, what kind of music is it, what’s the sound, a mixture of everything?”

Quinn

“Supa Youth is more of a mixture, it’s like we had five songs left over from the album that we are trying to put out and I was like what are we going to do with these five songs cause I don’t want to let them sit. So we just put them out on the air and it’s like one reggae–actually three reggae but one of them I’m rapping on top of–so it’s a lot of different mixtures.”

The Woodwellas are slated to perform as one of the opening acts at the Beres Hammond show this Saturday night. Copies of Supa Youth are available at local record stores including the Record Shack and Stone’s Muzik Outlet.
