Coaches Receive Training from F.F.B.

Thirty-two football coaches from across the country converged at the F.F.B. Headquarters in Belmopan for day-one of a week-long FIFA training course to improve the sport in Belize. German Instructor Gary Stempel, who is currently a Panamanian football team manager, is renowned for his groundbreaking work in football development in youth. He has been contracted to carry out the training that will provide technical and tactical expertise to coaches, in a view to improve the foundation of the sport. After a brief opening ceremony today, the session began and News Five was able to speak with Stempel and F.F.B. President Sergio Chuc about the first international course.

“He is one of the architects that moved the Panamanian football up to the level where it is right now; his specialty is with youth development. And as has been promised our main focus would be in improving the youth level. So this is the first international course that we are doing. I believe we have thirty-two participants from around the country who are doing the youth coaching course.”

“This is part of a FIFA program that is developing different courses in different areas of CONCACAF to try to improve the quality of coaching for smaller nations. They are investing a lot of time to ensure that there is a good training program and the Belize Federation is also doing a great job in trying to promote training of its coaches. We have thirty coaches here from all over Belize where for the next four or five days, they will be learning different types of technical and tactical aspects of the game; new trends in football…to try to also work on their ability on how to coach, with evaluation of coaches on the pitches with different topics. So it is a very intense coach, but it is something that obviously we all hope that after the end of the course, the coaches will go back to their clubs back to their communities to be able to practice what they have actually learnt.”
