CitCo Fires 6 including City Administrator Candice Miller
Two months after first entering office, the Belize City Council has begun clearing house, starting at the very top. News Five has confirmed that there were six terminations by the Council today. Among those terminated is City Administrator Candice Miller, who signed a four-year contract just before the 2018 municipal elections for more than ninety thousand dollars per year. She had just completed a one-month suspension for breach of fiduciary duty in relation to a debt incurred by the Council and ascribed to former compliance officer and known United Democratic Party partisan Joe Bradley. She had also been openly accused of similar dealings with Council money. Miller has a lawsuit pending over her suspension and had met with the Council last week.
Senior staffer at the Sanitation Department Cecil Jenkins confirmed to News Five this evening that he too was terminated, but indicated that he was at news time in a meeting with representatives of the Christian Workers’ Union, the trade union that represents the Council’s staff. Other persons reportedly terminated include Wayne Samuels, brother of former deputy mayor Dean Samuels; the mayor’s office manager; Lisbeth Butler; and two others, Whitney Waight and Shana White. A brief statement from the Council issued late this evening only addresses the termination of Miller, stating that the Council decided to part ways with her following last Thursday’s meeting and “acting in the best interest of the city.”
