Minister of Education voted for mayor’s expulsion

That being said, it is known that the mayor does not have too many friends in the U.D.P. hierarchy and that they can’t wait to see the back of her. One man who is not holding back is Minister Patrick Faber who told News Five on Wednesday that he personally voted in favor of her removal from the party.

“I have some issues with the mayor saying that there is some interference and that it is a witch-hunt. As it relates to her involvement or her expulsion from the national party council of course, I maintain that the party had a right to do that according to the constitution.”

“Did you vote in favor of her expulsion?”

Patrick Faber
“Yes I did.”

“Why?”

Patrick Faber
“Because of what was presented. Certainly, when we have the charges and I don’t want to put those charges out yet because she will have to be given the charges and then the central executive will call her in to ask her to answer to these charges and then the ethics committee of the party will decide if they don’t feel she gave a good answer to the central executive. But certainly the party council where it believes that one of its members have not been acting in good fate, in line with what the party wants, the party has the right to do that and based on the evidence of the television stations, what she has said publicly, the party council felt and I certainly felt that she was not in line with what we wanted to see in our party council. I have gone on the record, of course, in the convention and even now to say that I am not a big fan of the mayor.”

“People have been saying that it is something personal between yourself and other members of the part against the Mayor Moya.”

Patrick Faber
“I don’t have anything personal against the mayor, I’ll tell you this, there are those of us in the United Democratic Party who have given our lives. I have been a member of this party since I was fourteen years old and that puts me at about fifteen or sixteen years in this party and I have worked over the years to build this party to what it is and I am not going to stand idly by and watch anybody destroy the reputation of the party, which so many Belizeans have worked so hard to develop without saying what I feel and having anybody to tell me to close my mouth.”

Faber says that the National Party Council met on Saturday and it is uncertain if and when Moya will have to meet the central executive.
