Youth Fest hopes to fill B.T.L. Park on Sat.
On Saturday, as many as six thousand young people from all over Belize are expected to assemble at the B.T.L. Park as part of Youth Fest. The event is being organized by the Belize Youth Movement, the youth arm of the People’s United Party, and coordinators say the activity promises to entertain and educate the young minds of Belize.
Andy Palacio, Entertainment Coordinator
“It will kick off with the Griga Boys and will be followed by a couple of D.J. acts including Presi D, Belizean Movements, D.J. Tambran, Stone Jam, and will culminate with another Punta Rock performance featuring Griga Boyz again, backing Lloyd and Reckless, Titiman Flores and Chico Ramos. In between these we’ll have reggae artist coming on, there’s a fairly long line-up of reggae artists including a reggae band coming from Belmopan called the Fireheart Band, featuring Indio, who is Bredda David’s son. And we will also be having a rap contest. There’s a fairly lucrative prize for that, it’s a record deal where the winner would be able to record an album featuring six tracks at Ludwig Studios and will get the first one hundred CDs for free.”
Janelle Chanona
“Now for anybody watching this and wondering whether or not they should come out here because they might think it’s a political thing, a PUP thing, what do you say to them?”
Charles Galvez, President, Belize Youth Movement
“I would honestly ask you to think again and look at the bigger picture, look at it as something positive for the young people of Belize and look at us as young people who are trying to contribute positively to the development of our livelihood and to the Development of Belize. Yes, the B.Y.M. is the political youth arm of the People’s United Party, however, our doors and windows are open to any young person who want to contribute positively to the development of Belize.”
The event is slated to start at 3:00 Saturday afternoon at the B.T.L. Park.
