Ex-Policeman Charged for Burning Household Goods

Brandon Hertular

A former police officer is in trouble with the law again after apparently setting afire goods belonging to a Belize City woman last week. Six years ago the then-police constable, Brandon Hertular, was accused of burglarizing a residence but was convicted on charges of theft of cash and a loaded firearm. Today, he was read a charge of arson before Magistrate Michelle Trapp, who did not take a plea as the charge is an indictable offence. Hertular is accused of burning a butane gas tank, lumber, siding and flooring board valued at over one thousand five hundred dollars, the property of Sherlett Hyde, on May second, though the exact circumstances are not known. Hertular, now a fisherman, was granted bail of three thousand, five hundred dollars and returns to court on July eighteenth.
