Gov’t approves butane price hikes
It does not belong in the category of crime news, but many Belizeans may view it with the same sense of helpless resignation. After a few days of an informal work stoppage, sellers of butane gas have been granted a price increase by government. A release from the Ministry of Trade indicates that as of September fifteenth the new retail price for a hundred pounds of gas will be sixty dollars in Dangriga, sixty-one in P.G., Corozal and Orange Walk, sixty-two dollars in Belize City, sixty-four in Belmopan, sixty-five in San Ignacio and sixty-six dollars in Benque Viejo. The gas companies cited higher acquisition costs as justification for the increases.
