Gangster Nicholi Rhys Charged with Murder of Taxi Man Luis Carlos Moh

Nicholi Rhys

Within hours of the murder of Luis Carlos Moh, taxi operator of the Kings’ Park area of Belize City at mile eight on the George Price Highway, police have made an arrest. His accused killer, Nicholi Rhys, is a familiar face, having previously been charged with and acquitted of the murder of the late former gang leader Andre Trapp, who was brazenly shot at the courthouse in 2010. This afternoon, Rhys was brought to the same courthouse to be charged before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer. He was duly remanded until July twenty-seventh. Moh and his girlfriend were inside his taxi when he got a call requesting service. He went first to Vernon Street and then up to the Mile eight area, and was then ordered by his two passengers to go to Homeland Memorial Park. Moh and his girlfriend were held up at gunpoint but she managed to escape while he was shot twice in the chest and back. News Five spoke with Moh’s grieving mother on Tuesday.

“This has to be a most terrible loss for the family.  How are you guys holding up?”

“Well, we are just trusting in the Lord, accepting what the Lord has given us, you know, because it’s only him who has decided what has happened and what will happen and we accept whatever he has for us.  The only thing that we ask for is prayers because that’s the only thing that sustains us in these moments and I think that we have to pray for our country and for all the people who are grieving too for their loved ones.  Apart from that, nothing else, we just have to accept what the Good Lord has given us.”

“Is there any other word you would want to share regarding your son, to anyone out there who may know what happened?”

“The only thing that I would say is that I leave everything in the hands of the Lord.  We are nobody to judge, we are nobody to do justice and I just hope that my other children would understand that we want peace, we want to love.  We want everything to, we want them to accept whatever the Good Lord has given us.”
