St. John’s Cathedral promotes annual food fest

For the past six years, the parishioners of St. John’s Anglican Cathedral have worked hard to restore their beloved building to its former glory. Progress has been constant, albeit slow, and a recent act of vandalism destroyed much of the improvements. But the restoration committee refuses to give up on their goal. This weekend, the church is holding their annual international food festival, and according to one organiser, this year there will be items on the menu to appease any palate.

“This year we bring highlights of international dishes from Antigua, Jamaica, the United States and Central America. One of our highlights this year is not only the steel band music, but we have some Garifuna drummers that will be playing for us. We’ll have some of the native foods of Belize: boil-up, hudut, rice and beans and even “kick down” fry chicken as a part of this year’s food fest. As you know, each year we do this fundraising to continue the restoration work of St. John’s Cathedral. We are through with the roof part of the work and with the re-wiring and the fans and light, now this year we have decided to try to replace some of the windows and some of the tiles. So all the proceeds that come from this year’s food fest will go directly to that event.”

This year’s festival is being held under the patronage of senior parishioner Elswith Young. The fair starts at ten-thirty this Saturday on the grounds of the St. John’s Anglican Cathedral.
