City Youth Stabbed Outside Civic Center
Since opening its doors to the public several weeks ago, the Belize City Center has been the venue of choice for various sporting and other entertainment activities. The facility has also been fairly secure and free of the violence that plagues the Old Capital. But on Friday night, following the well-attended basketball game, an altercation ensued between two persons which resulted in twenty-year-old Tyrique Garbutt being stabbed twice to the upper body. The incident, police believe, occurred outside of the building.
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino, C.I.B., Belize City
“What I have from that stabbing from Civic is that Tyrique Garbutt, a twenty-year-old, reported that whilst at Civic, he got in an altercation with an individual and that individual is unknown to him. That individual inflicted two stab wounds to him, one to his upper right arm and one to the left side of his chest. He is listed in a stable condition and he is scheduled to undergo surgery shortly.”

“Do you have the actual location on the Civic compound where that happened and the time?”
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino
“No, I don’t have that exact location at this time.”
Reporter
“So not even [to say] inside or outside?”
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino
“I don’t have that information. I think it’s outside.”
