Minister applauds work at Youth Hostel

A sports day at the Youth Hostel at mile twenty-one on the Western Highway gave the Ministry of Human Development a chance to recognise the institution and those who live and work there. This morning Minister Dolores Balderamos Garcia spoke at the opening ceremonies.

“On special occasions like this sports day today, when the boys and girls of this home team up with their adult care providers and become competitively involved with one another in striving for victory, lasting lessons are learned and lasting friendships are forged. We need more of this kind of interaction at the hostel. Our nation needs more of this kind of interaction, situations where children and adults come together in a community of mutual respect to play, to compete, and above all, to have wholesome fun with one another.”

Balderamos Garcia noted that the Youth Hostel should be only one option within a continuum of care; a last option and not a first.
