Tourist dead in Western Highway accident

One woman is dead and three others have been injured after a vehicle carrying a family of Salvadoran tourists turned over on the Western Highway. According to Hattieville police, around 12:30 this afternoon, fifty-one year old Fernando Pacheco and his family were travelling towards Belmopan when their Land Rover Discovery flipped several times on a curve at mile fourteen.

“When we arrived on the scene the vehicle was on its four-wheels, already turned over. An elderly female, about seventy-nine, was lying near the vehicle on the ground without moving. The ambulance came on the scene and the paramedics pronounced her dead. Apart from that you had two other females with minor injuries. You had the twenty-three year old girl, Kathy, who was complaining of chest pains. She was taken to the Belize City hospital in the ambulance.”

“According to the driver, Mr. Pacheco, he stated that he lost control on the curve and he was trying to manoeuvre the vehicle, but then it flipped over.”
The dead woman has been identified as seventy-nine year old Maria De Handala. Hospitalised are fifty-one year old Fernando Pacheco, his forty-one year old wife Evelyn, and their twenty-three year old stepdaughter, Kathy Lozano.
