Police confident of impartial investigation

Story Picture
While at Racoon Street this morning, News 5 took the opportunity to speak to the department’s public relations officer, G. Michael Reid, about concerns that the police officers charged with investigating the latest immigration scandal might be influenced by the fact that the subjects of the inquiry may include their bosses and colleagues.

G. Michael Reid, Police Press Officer

“I spoke to Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr. Augustine yesterday and I voiced the very same concern that you are voicing. He told me in no uncertain terms that he’s a police officer, he’s going to do the job that he’s paid to do by the people of Belize. I have the utmost confidence in Senior Superintendent Mr. Bernard Lino, who is himself a no-nonsense guy. So I am confident that these two officers heading this investigation will produce a fair and impartial result.”

“They are trained investigators and they will go out there and get the facts and present it to the parties who can then take it from there, and if there’s need for prosecution after that, then proceed with that.”

While the results of the investigation will be handed over to the D.P.P., no deadline has been established.
