Business donate bikes to police

Determined to change its reputation in the eyes of the public, the Police Department has been actively working with the community to prevent and solve crimes. One part of that effort is the Zone Beat Liaison Officer programme, an initiative that today received a helping hand from two local businessmen. This morning Tony Leslie of Leslie’s Imports and Edward Quan of Quan’s Trading Centre handed over five new bicycles to the officer in charge of the Z.B.L.O., Sergeant Gilbert Pitts. According to Pitts, the new wheels are a welcomed donation.
Sgt. Gilbert Pitts, Zone Beat Liaison Officer Programme
“So we have five bikes and we have eight officers, so we’re still short of some bikes. So if anybody would like to help us get out there, we would be more than happy to get this programme going. Because we work different from other police officers, we do community policing, actually get into the community working with the people on a one on one basis. So all these officers are trained to go into the community and try to bridge the gap between the community and the police.”
If you would like to make a donation to the Zone Beat Liaison Officer programme, please contact Sergeant Pitts at the Racoon Street Police Station in Belize City.
