Businessman Omero Campos Remains Missing After Being Abducted from San Narciso on Sunday

The family of a San Narciso businessman is with bated breath tonight following his kidnapping on Sunday. Omero Campos left his family and home in the village heading to his farm but has not been heard from. But his family received a call from his purported kidnappers who gave them until midday to come up with a hefty ransom of a million dollars. All day today, as the deadline for the delivery of the ransom approached, the police surrounded his residence and kept a close eye on the Campus family. Time quickly ran out and the family came up short of the cash. But why was the businessman kidnapped and by whom? News Five’s Isani Cayetano was in the village today looking for answers.

At noon today, a team of policemen arrived in San Narciso Village. Shortly thereafter, they were joined by another detail of law enforcement officers dispatched from the Corozal police formation. Since Sunday, they have been standing guard at Henry’s Store, the residence of proprietor Omer Campos. At midday, his family was preparing to meet a tight deadline and deliver a hefty ransom, despite not knowing his whereabouts or wellbeing.

“Forty-three-year-old businessman Omer Campos left his home in San Narciso Village to visit his cattle farm here on the outskirts of the village, just before heading to San Victor when he was abducted by several unknown kidnappers. His family is now tasked with coming up with a million dollars in ransom to secure his release.”
In speaking with Leonardo Campos earlier today, he told News Five off-record that they were only able to secure fifty thousand dollars of the total amount his son’s abductors have since demanded.

“The family however, remains hopeful and wants the safe return of Mr. Campos to his loved ones in Corozal District.”
Investigators, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett, have been working diligently in an effort to ensure that Campos is alive and well. The circumstances surrounding his snatching however are curious since neighbors and residents of San Narciso describe him as an upright citizen who operates a humble business in the village. “On yesterday’s date one Homero Campos, a forty-three-year-old businessman of San Narciso Village left his home en route to his farm to do work and up to the time of yesterday evening, he had not returned home. His family had received a telephone call and the police have since initiated an investigation into his whereabouts.”

“Understanding the disclaimer and his safety is most important, are you able to say what the involvement of the police in the investigation in terms of a complaint or a report that has been made and you all are following up on certain leads? What are the police doing?”

“The police are conducting searches along with family members within the area to see whether or not he can be located. And yes, a call was made to the police department yesterday, concerning that Mr. Campos is missing.”

“No, I will not venture into that other than to say that this is an ongoing investigation.”

“His family is desperately searching for answers, having received an ominous phone call on Sunday evening from an unknown number registered to a Mexico area code.”

At news time tonight, we have been unable to confirm whether the partial payment to Campos’ kidnappers was successfully transacted.
