Toyota is favourite target of car thieves

Another good reason to leave the guns at home is the likelihood that the whole vehicle may be stolen. Once virtually unknown in Belize, car thefts have become common. Police confirm that one hundred and ninety-six vehicles have been reported stolen in the last eighteen months. Even more interesting is that over one hundred and thirty have been Toyotas. Camry is the favourite model, with sixty-four taken, followed by forty Corollas and twenty-six each of Cressida and Tercel. Favourite venues for car thefts are–you guessed it–the Newtown Barracks area with thirty-five, Kings Park with twenty-four and Buttonwood Bay reporting fourteen car thefts. The remaining one hundred and sixteen were scattered around the city and country.
