A pregnant woman is critical after a wild shooting at her home in Trial Farm Village on Tuesday night. Diana Ack was shot several times as she was with her common-law husband Nazario Herrera and friends at their house on San Narciso Street.  A lone gunman made his way into the yard, pulled out a firearm and released a barrage of bullets at the unsuspecting crowd. The bullets found their mark on four persons, including Ack. Three children, the youngest being a one-year-old boy witnessed the shooting and fortunately, all were spared. Ack is fighting for her life and the life of her unborn child. News Five’s Hipolito Novelo reports.

“All of my friends who come to buy food from me were sitting down with me at my house when I heard two gunshots, bang bang. But I did not think that one of my friends had already been shot. When he felt the gunshots, he ran”

Thirty-five-year-old Nazario Herrera recounted what happened inside his yard on San Narciso Street in Trial Farm Village Orange Walk District on Tuesday night. The shooter entered the yard sneaking close enough to the unsuspecting crowd of family and friends before pulling out a firearm and firing several shots in their direction.

Nazario Herrera

“Like how he couldn’t touch me, the man ran. When he could not shoot, I came with the machete and I flagged him with the machete. But then the machete bucked on the door and he ran. When he ran, he ran into a vehicle. We know the vehicle. The vehicle is from Trial Farm. Only one man has that vehicle and then the man take off in the vehicle and went. We already know who did it. We know who sent to kill me”

“How many shots were fired?”

Nazario Herrera

“Seventeen shots. The police recovered like thirteen to fourteen shots.”

“He came from behind?”

Nazario Herrera

“He came through the back. My friends were sitting down like how I told you.”

The crowd scattered. Three children were caught in the middle.

Nazario Herrera

“The gun man came right into me and started to shoot at me but I started to scatter the shots and the man could not shoot me. Only one shot me on the back when I grabbed my two daughters. When I grabbed by two daughters, I stoned them in the house. And then my little daughter told me ‘see the big machete there daddy’.  I grabbed the machete but when I went into the kitchen, the man came in the house and bang bang bang at my girl. He let go five bullets on my girl. But when I heard bang, it did not bust again. So then I came with my machete. This man was looking to shot my son who is only one year old. I got two daughters; one who is four and one who is three. And the man already said who did and who sent to give this message. If I did not run to save my daughter this would have killed my three children.”

Herrera was shot to the buttocks. His friends: twenty-year-old Monico Gomez and nineteen-year-old, Victor Ku were shot to the chest and foot respectively. They were released from the hospital.  Herrera’s pregnant common- law-wife, twenty-six-year-old Diana Ack was shot to the chest and arm.

“The man was going to shoot my baby in my yard, in my hammock. Me and my lady would have taken the gun from him. He lucky he ran. That is why my girl got shot because she got (bleep) to confront him. She got five. Right now they are checking if the bullets are not running. They are looking to take it out because like I told you, she is pregnant. They caught us back armed. They wanted to kill us. That was their intention, kill us.”

Herrera says he knows who did it and why.

Nazario Herrera

“We already reported him like four days ago, last Thursday. We took him to court, to station. Two of them pulled gun on my girl. They want to shoot my girl. Two days ago they came back and told my girl that this will not stay up, that they will come back and ‘shot uno ina uno house. We will kill uno” We k now the man. I won’t say no name. I know the person who did it. I know the person who sent it and this will not stay so. I recognize the person in his face. We already told the police who this person is. All that I am asking is for them to do something because if the police don’t do something, I will do it personally.”
